SUMMARY:SoilShops: Free Soil Contaminant Workshops
DESCRIPTION:King Conservation District is partnering with the Department of Ecology to offer free soil testing events this growing season! \nThese events will be focused on lead and arsenic testing in areas most affected by the historic Tacoma Smelter Plume. This copper smelter operated for almost 100 years in Tacoma and transported lead\, arsenic\, and other heavy metal pollution to more than 1\,000 square miles of the Puget Sound. To find out if you live in an area affected by the plume\, search for your address on Dirt Alert. \nTo test your soil for lead and arsenic contaminants\, bring a sample of your soil to our SoilSHOP events this summer! King CD will test your soil to give you immediate results of lead and arsenic levels and provide expert advice on how to manage your soil. \nSave the date and stay tuned for details about these upcoming events: \n\nFederal Way SoilSHOP @ Federal Way Farmer’s Market\, Saturday May 16th from 9am to 3pm\n\n\nDes Moines SoilSHOP @ Midway Covenant Community Church\, Saturday June 20th from 10am to 2pm\n\n\nVashon SoilSHOP @ Vashon Strawberry Festival\, Saturday July 18th from 10am to 6pm and Sunday July 19th from 10am to 5pm
