SoilShops: Free Soil Contaminant Workshops

June 20 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
A promotional graphic shows people learning about soil in an outdoor garden setting. One image shows a small group at a table reviewing materials and writing notes, while another shows a group gathered around a raised garden bed with young plants and a person holding a red bucket. A banner across the center reads, “Soilshops: Find out what’s in your soil!” At the bottom, a hand uses a trowel to scoop dark soil near green plants. Logos for King Conservation District and the Washington State Department of Ecology appear in the lower corner.

King Conservation District is partnering with the Department of Ecology to offer free soil testing events this growing season!

These events will be focused on lead and arsenic testing in areas most affected by the historic Tacoma Smelter Plume. This copper smelter operated for almost 100 years in Tacoma and transported lead, arsenic, and other heavy metal pollution to more than 1,000 square miles of the Puget Sound. To find out if you live in an area affected by the plume, search for your address on Dirt Alert.

To test your soil for lead and arsenic contaminants, bring a sample of your soil to our SoilSHOP events this summer! King CD will test your soil to give you immediate results of lead and arsenic levels and provide expert advice on how to manage your soil.
