Scholarship: Compost Facility Operator Training

June 16 - June 28
People work outdoors around a steaming compost pile. In the foreground, a large heap of organic material emits steam, while a person in a gray hoodie uses a tool to turn it. Others in jackets and hats stand nearby with buckets and papers, in a farm-like setting with a building in the background.

The Washington Organic Recycling Council (WORC) is accepting scholarship applications for the annual Compost Facility Operator Training (CFOT)!

CFOT includes four full days of classroom instruction at the Washington State University Puyallup Research and Extension Center and one day touring local commercial compost facilities. The course meets the training requirements for compost facility operators in WA state; it covers an extensive array of compost topics including:

  • Compost Use in Agriculture and Horticulture
  • Biology of the Compost Pile
  • Feedstock Management
  • Regulations
  • Odor Control and Response
  • Sampling and Testing
  • Compost Quality
  • Compost Facility Operations

This year, full scholarships will be awarded to 2 applicants, and partial scholarships (50%) will be awarded to an additional 2 applicants. The application deadline is June 28th.
